About Garsen Constituency

Garsen Constituency is one of the three constituencies in Tana River County. It is located along the banks of Tana River and lies along Malindi Garissa Road. It covers an area of 15614 km2. Tsavo national park covers 20% of this area. It also has one of Kenya’s largest deltas covering an area of 1,300, km2.The Constituency is sparsely populated with the arid and semi-arid (ASAL) regions. Although it borders Tana River, most parts of the constituency receive erratic rainfall resulting in acute water shortage in most parts of the constituency. The area also experiences high temperatures ranging between 30c and 42c. In addition, parts of the constituency experience heavy flooding during heavy rains in Mount Kenya region. This makes the constituency the Constituency vulnerable to food insecurity hence the local people to rely on relief food.
